Paul Austerberry is an Academy Award-winning Production Designer renowned for building the massive, immersive worlds in both high-concept spectacles and prestige dramas. He most notably designed Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, for which he achieved the rare feat of winning the "Triple Crown" of production design: the Academy Award, British Academy for Film and Television (BAFTA), and Art Directors Guild Award (ADG).
He designed the DC multiverse epic The Flash and the global horror phenomenon IT: Chapter Two, both with director Andy Muschietti. Paul’s architectural background makes him specialist in creating cinematic scale, as seen in his work on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and the historical epic Pompeii, which earned him a Canadian Screen Award.
Expanding the IT universe, Paul designed the acclaimed HBO prequel series It: Welcome to Derry, for which he received a ADG nomination. His recent credits also include Blitz Bazawule's bold reimagining of The Color Purple, for which he received a Black Reel Award.
As a child Paul travelled extensively with his parents, including three years of living in Uganda. Film has taken him to numerous locations around the world and travel is a constant source of inspiration. Paul is based in Toronto, Canada.
