rina yang, b.s.c.

Rina Yang is a cinematographer based in London, born of South Korean heritage and raised in Japan, where her visual sensibility was first shaped through the study of still life and portrait painting — a fine art foundation that lends her work a painterly intentionality recognizable on screen.

Yang has made history at every stage of her career: the first Asian woman to join the British Society of Cinematographers, the first female DOP to win a cinematography award at the British Arrows, and a BAFTA Breakthrough alumna of 2020. She has also received a BAFTA Cymru nomination for Best Cinematographer in Fiction.

Her television credits include the celebrated sixth episode of Euphoria Season 2 for HBO/A24, Season 3 of Top Boy for Netflix, and Sitting in Limbo for BBC One, winner of the BAFTA for Best Single Drama. Her feature work spans Nanny (Sundance Grand Jury Prize) for Amazon Studios, The Fire Inside for MGM, O'dessa for Searchlight Pictures, and most recently Mother Mary for A24.

Fluent in Japanese, Yang brings a cross-cultural depth to her work that is quiet but ever-present — portrait-driven, emotionally precise, and always in service of the story.
